margy > I spotted this Red-tailed Hawk circling the steeple at Kirkwood United Methodist Church on Tuesday, May 8. There appears to be nesting material. Keep an eye on this for further developments!

margy > After photographing the volunteers planting in Kirkwood Junction on May 5, I came home and saw a few birds at the bubbler. I set up my scope and camera and within minutes, this beautiful Cerulean Warbler came into view! The amazing thing is that this bird is on the Endangered List, and never in my wildest dreams did I think it would find it's way to our bubbler! How lucky to see it and get a photo! As a friend of mine who studies these birds for Cornell University and the Missouri Department of Natural Resources said, "It's mind-blowingly fantastic that this bird was in your yard!"

margy > I looked out the bedroom window one morning and saw the tail end of this little guy. He was sleepy, so I was able to get a photo of him.

margy > On March 17, 2006, I watched 2 Great Horned Owls sit all day long in 2 different trees. About 5 pm, I discovered why! A chick had fallen from the nest, and they fed him a rabbit. I followed this owlet for over a month, photographing him at a distance. It became a real neighborhood educational experience! I wrote a story for the Audubon Society of Missouri's 'Bluebird' about the 'Owlet of Green-kirk'.

margy > The owlet crossed the street, perching on low boulders, porches and finally this yew.

margy > What joy the night we found him in a tree! He had learned to fly.

margy > Here, the owlet is about 7-8 weeks old.
